What Is International Fun at Work Day?
International Fun at Work Day falls on April 1st every year and no, it's not an April Fools' joke. It's a real, recognized day dedicated to bringing more joy, laughter, and connection into the workplace!
The best workplace activities spark genuine connection, stir up conversation, and bring genuine moments you'll remember as a team! This year, International Fun at Work Day lands on a Tuesday, prime time for a mid-week boost of joy.
April 1st, 2026 also marks the theatre release of the highly anticipated Super Mario Galaxy Movie, bringing nostalgia to offices everywhere!
Whether your team grew up with the original or discovered Mario Kart at college parties, there's something universally joyful about the Mario Universe!
Here are 7 ways you can integrate Super Mario fun into the office for International Fun At Work Day this year!
1. Host a Live Mario Trivia Tournament
To celebrate both International Fun at Work Day AND the Mario movie premiere, we've created a Mario Trivia Room complete with questions about the games, characters and movie to bring back the nostalgia to the office!
Why it works:
- No downloads or signups required!
- Works for remote, hybrid, and in-person teams
- Free to play
- Takes 15-20 minutes (perfect for an icebreaker or at the beginning of Standups)
2. Run a "Pick Who" Challenge
Use CrowdParty's Pick Who game mode to let teammates vote on fun questions about each other:
- Who would survive longest on a deserted island?
- Who is most likely to accidentally go to work on a Saturday?
- Who is most likely to plan the best team outings?
Pick who reveals personalities, sparks inside jokes, and creates team stories that last!
3. Launch a Scavenger Hunt
Transform your office (or home office!) into an adventure zone. Hosting a Scavenger Hunt can help the team get up and active while having fun!
Here are some great prompts to plug into your next hunt!:
- Snap a photo of something red and something green at your desk
- Snap a photo of your favourite Mario Universe character!
- Snap a photo of something you would bring into the Mario Universe!
Scavenger hunts works great for hybrid teams because remote and in-office employees can participate equally!
4. Play "Would You Rather" with a Twist
Would you rather questions always get the team talking, and can really split the office based on what questions are asked!
Here are a few Mario-themed options for the occasion:
- Would you rather have Yoshi as your commute partner or a Warp Pipe to the office?
- Would you rather work at Peach's Castle or run Bowser's operations team?
5. Host a "Majority Wins" Game
In Majority Wins, everyone votes and the majority answer earns points!
Here are some great questions to start you off for Fun at Work Day:
- What's the best office snack?
- What is your favourite day of the week at work?
- Ping coworkers in Slack or email?
The debates that follow are half the fun!
6. Create a Growth Story Wall (Low-Tech Option)
If you want something more reflective, set up a physical or virtual board where team members share:
- A skill they've developed this year
- A project they're proud of
- A colleague who helped them grow
This could look like a whiteboard full of reflections, a post-it-note wall, a virtual mind map, or even a shared google doc!

7. Give Out Creative Prizes
Every good game needs rewards. Instead of generic gift cards awarded for game winners, try:
- "First Pick" lunch order privileges for a week
- Custom desk trophy (3D printed or hand-drawn)
- "Skip one meeting" pass (check with your manager first)
- Coffee delivery to their desk for a day
The sillier the prize, the more memorable the experience!!

How to Run a Fun at Work Day Event in 15 Minutes
Don't have time for elaborate planning? Here's the no-stress playbook:
- Pick a game format Trivia, Pick Who, or Majority Wins work best for quick plays (or even our Mario Party!)
- Share the room link via Slack, email, or your video call chat
- Give teams 15-20 minutes to play async or live
- Celebrate the winners with a quick shoutout
No downloads. No setup. Just instant joy for the team!
